It's not the first time I draw folk costume of China. I drew Cheongsam (Qipao,旗袍,チャイナドレス) before. This time I focus on more traditional clothing: Hanfu (漢服).

The story happened in Song Dynasty (宋朝) of China, but you can tell that the clothing and hairdo still remain style of Late Tang Dynasty (晚唐). Personally, I love the girl's stuff, she comes from a wealthy family. The tall cool guy, basically, is a middle class student.And the joyful guy comes from a coroner/medical examiner family(仵作,検屍官), whose stuff is a little cheaper.

I didn't have too much time to do it this time. So I used two photos as background material to save time.

The city stuff was taken in 2014 christmas day when we stopped by Oklahoma City on the way back home from NW. There were no people on the street except us, that's good for a background material. But the original photo was a cloudy dark day, not proper for the scene I need. So I tried 5-6 blending models including overlay, hard light, multiply, difference, color burn and screen. Now it looks like a scene of summer twilight with a golden tone.

Then I added some clouds and bright sunset light in sky as an end. The clouds material was from another photo I took at a lake park near home.

There are two new brushes I used in this work to do the treasure on the bottom. Not exactly what I want, but also not bad, considering the deadline was coming then.

A character from my original story. It used to be a Vampire King, who's in its latest transformation process from vampire to human. He is a creature between human and vampire now.
I have worked with CSP for a long time. But I'd like to draw something different by SAI apart from paid work. So , now, here is it. How do you think about it?

我知道时针如何爬过十二点的琴谱,
分针如何踮起脚尖眺望,
秒针匆匆忙忙向下一个圆圈褰去,
将沉默的鄢夜褰往皎洁的黎明。


我知道熟睡的人们如何从梦中醒来,
仿佛死者听见末日的号角,
翻转,起身,嘟囔着,叹息着,
眼睁睁窗外晨光高涨,
过去被一股脑重写入记忆,
开机,重启,
崭新的一天。


再会了!梦与死的黄昏国度⋯⋯
我不知道有什么被覆盖,
什么已被舍弃。



我知道太阳如何收敛起万丈光芒,
像受洗的教徒般柔顺歌唱,
候鸟路过这铁一般的丛林,
将疲倦的旅歌呈上。

破晓的Aporkalypse / 灰雪が降る、暁のAporkalypse / Aporkalypse Christmas Postcard

The postcard is a commission work from armathenia for the Kickstarter project Aporkalypse - An Entertaining End of the World Anthology

I myself pretty love the worldbuilding of this project and the characters design it has, it's absolutely worth to read. Wish I can draw something in sort of worldbuilding like that in the future.

Speaking of the postcard, I sub two concept schemes as start, then they chose the second one. So here we are. Drawn by CSP EX ( mangastudio).



Concept 1 is a scene people work together to prepare new year celebration, they try to mix some different cultures, in the end it's like something new within old fashion, as the Hybrid in Doctor Who. The tone will be warm characters, starlight lamps and mysterious plants in a dark cold blue background.
I myself like this one too. May draw it out one day.



Concept 2 is a phone camera UI, you can see people enjoy their skiing vacation in ski resort, and Kobuta is taking a selfie to record the moment. The yellow square is auto-focus, tag all of human and animal. I want to show that every life is special and is one of all, although most time we mean to, or have to, ignore and forget. I myself love the most dramatic scene from the big guy and lady on the far left. The former is a "meatatarian" and the latter is a vegetarian. Notice what's in the snowman hands behind them, you can guess what they're arguing. Yes, during the end of world, living with the last one walking-pork/pet, arguing about ethics of eating. I guess that's whom we human exactly are LOL.
Slightly red sky is armathenia's idea, I think it's great. Considering it's a post-apocalyptic fiction, not good time obviously, but in the heart we still have fun and hope when being together, I did it with a bright soft tone as the dawn after long dark, less dramatic but more emotional.
Also I used manga/anime style to do it, despite it's basically sort of western worldbuilding.

PS: Just check my journal, recall that I heard the Paris attacks when I finished conception draft. I added the Eiffel Tower peace symbol on the girl's T-shirt when coloring. Just a little piece of wish.
